The main difference between a serum and a moisturizer is that a serum has smaller molecules. These smaller molecules allow you to get added nutrients deeper into the layers of your skin. While a moisturizer is meant to deposit moisture and hydration to your skin a serum is meant to deposit nutrients into the deeper layers of your skin.
If the moisturizer you’re using is providing your skin with everything it needs there is no reason to use a serum. But if you have problems such as excess oiliness, dark spots or aging signs a serum may be just what you need.
